This Months Featured Speaker
Jeff Mills, LPN and Administrator at Simplistic Medical, LLC. He was born in Denver, Colorado and raised in Albuquerque where he graduated from Del Norte High School in 1990 and completed Nursing School soon after. Jeff has been a successful professional in the orthopedics industry in New Mexico for over 25 years. He has dedicated his career to meeting patient needs in orthopedics by prioritizing physician and patient satisfaction above all else. Shortly after graduation, Jeff was employed by the VA Hospital on the Orthopedics department. In 1990 Jeff joined UNMH’s Neurology/Neurosurgery Floor and then moved to the Orthopedic Floor. Dr. Moheb Monheim soon recommended and endorsed him to challenge the Orthopedic Technologist Certification Test. He did so and passed, ultimately working at UNMH for 7 years. He finished his UNMH career as Charge Nurse of the Orthopedic Clinic in 1997.
At this time, he began his transition into private industry, joining Summit Orthopedics in 1997 under Dr. Michael Woods, who specialized in orthopedic spinal surgery. Incidentally, this is when Jeff was introduced to working with Worker’s Comp patients and adjusters. From Summit, Jeff was catapulted into the Orthopedic Bracing and Splinting Market, where in 2000, Jeff accepted a position with Madison Medical. Jeff soon became a partner within the Madison Medical organization. During this time, he helped grow Madison’s footprint to include the entire state of New Mexico and El Paso, Texas with well over 100 Stock & Bill inventory locations serving over 3,500 patients per month. It was also here that Jeff continued his involvement in WCA conferences. In 2009 Madison sold to United Orthopedic Group. Jeff maintained his position with the new company, eventually becoming a Regional Director covering several different states where he managed and taught his unique Stock & Bill Inventory model.
In 2014 United Orthopedic Group sold to an international bracing company. Jeff wanted to remain committed to the local community, the state of NM, and to providing the customer service his locations had grown accustomed to, so in March of 2015 Jeff joined Simplistic Medical, LLC, again attaining his goal of becoming the #1 Orthopedic Bracing and Supply company in the state serving over 22,000 patients a year in nearly 100 Stock & Bill Inventory locations. Simplistic Medical also has an Albuquerque clinic where patients can be measured and fit for off the shelf as well as custom, and maternity braces, and more.
Jeff attributes his success to his “People First” philosophy, which reflects his faith in God, and dictates the principle of “always taking care of one another, and all those we encounter.” Jeff says he, “always tries to lift everyone up and be positive. New Mexico is a small place, with a tight-knit community and culture. I know that to succeed here you must understand both, and our company does our part to take care of this community. Our customers are always treated as if they are our friends, family, or neighbors.” He goes on to say, “There are some national companies in our space, but I would put our team’s dedication to customer service up against theirs and not give it a second thought. It is all about relationships, understanding the culture, and doing the right thing.”
Jeff also considers it essential to value the people he works with. “On a business level, I am most proud of my team and the culture we have built. The old saying that ‘you spend more time with the people you work with than your loved ones’, is often true. We are our own ‘work family’ and treat each other like it. We have fun and we are focused on the services we provide as just that, a “service” to our community.” #peoplefirst
